A new meta-analysis published by Nutrients shows the importance of the role of protein supplementation in combination with exercise training on muscle mass and function in older adults with lower-extremity osteoarthritis (OA). Aging and OA are associated with high risk of muscle mass loss. This study researched the effectiveness of protein supplementation combined with exercise training in improving muscle mass in older adults with lower-limb OA.
Three out of the six clinical papers assessed, were conducted by MEND in partnership with Slocum Orthopedics. The meta-analysis suggests that protein supplementation, combined with exercise training improves muscle mass, muscle strength, and functional outcomes.
