Former pro bowler and veteran NFL linebacker Connor Barwin invests in life sciences startup MEND and joins the company’s advisory board
NEW YORK, July 17th, 2017 – MEND announces today that it has taken an investment from Connor Barwin. This investment follows on the heels of the company being accepted into Biolabs@NYULangone and announcing investment from more than a dozen surgeons and a handful of professional investors.
“Connor joining our seed funding adds to the strength of our round” says CEO Eziah Syed, “he’s an extremely accomplished elite athlete who has had a long and very successful career and is a highly respected person who is doing great things for the community in Philadelphia. He is exactly the kind of high character person we want involved with our company.”
MEND is researching and developing clinical nutrition interventions and has implemented its solutions in major hospitals and physical therapy practices across the country. The uniqueness, scientific rigor and efficacy of the products has caught the attention of professional sports — MEND now has more than 30 professional sports teams across the professional leagues utilizing its products as well as the elite forces of the US Military.
“I was introduced to MEND in 2015 by a team that I played for and became a big fan of the products”, says Connor, “as I got closer to the company I was impressed to learn about their strategy to use science and clinical nutrition to create better patient outcomes. The recent adoption by the most elite hospitals in orthopedics is very impressive — I think the company has a very bright future and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
