Kevin Spelman, PhD, MCPP, Professor, Scientist, Leading Botanical Educator
Kevin Spelman, PhD, MCPP, is an internationally recognized expert on the molecular biology and clinical therapeutics of botanical medicine. A past National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow and Marie Curie research fellow, Dr. Spelman is a coauthor of 6 chapters and 23 scientific papers. He is the previous Clinical Chair for Maryland University of Integrative Health’s Clinical Herbal Medicine program and an adjunct assistant professor at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, an adjunct professor of botanical medicine at NCNM and Bastyr University and a distinguished lecturer at MUIH.
Erin Owen, PhD Executive Director at Slocum Foundation
Erin has been the Executive Director of the Slocum Foundation since 2013. To date, Erin has crossed paths with the orthopedic research community on three separate occasions – as a biomechanics research student, research associate and orthopedic clinical trial coordinator, and now, as the Slocum Foundation Director. She has over 18 years of healthcare-related experience in both the private and public sectors, ranging from basic research to applied epidemiology, clinical trials, health promotion, and community health program development and evaluation. Erin earned her doctorate in Public Health, in the area of Health Policy, from Oregon State University in 2017, a Master’s degree in Epidemiology from San Diego State University in 2004, and a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Linfield College in 2002.
Ken Roycroft, Post-Surgical Healing Rehabilitation Coordinator at Ralph J. Venuto MD – Orthopedics Sports Medicine
For over 30 years, Ken Roycroft has dedicated his life to researching the science of regenerative nutrition and how the right combination of nutrients can accelerate healing, recuperation, and slow down the overall aging process. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Ken is a clinical exercise specialist and nutrition consultant who has spent his entire career helping others return to health in the areas of nutritional guidance, sport performance, exercise prescription, post-rehabilitation and corporate wellness. Ken has also presented to physicians, corporations, and professional sports in the areas of optimizing surgical recovery, corporate wellness, healthy aging, optimal health, and peak performance.
Marla Ranieri, PT, DPT, OCS, Chief Development Officer at BetterPT
Marla graduated from Stanford University and received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Columbia University. She is an Orthopedic Certified Specialist who completed a residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Marla specializes in treating young athletes with an emphasis on the female gymnast, and recently published a book called, Gymnastics Medicine. Marla was the director of preventative and cash based services at Drayer Physical Therapy and went on to be one of the founders of BetterPT, a technology company that is helping connect patients to physical therapy. Marla continues to treat patients while combining her love of technology to make a patient’s pathway to care easier and more seamless.
